Which budget smartphone to choose in 2020?

The end of a difficult 2020 is coming, and for the holidays, many will clearly want to please themselves or their families with a brand new smartphone. In modern realities, a considerable number of people will choose an inexpensive device; fortunately, many of them today cannot be called frank state employees.

Let’s try to figure out what is worth buying in the conditional range of $ 100-200.

Smartphones around $100

$ 100 is the price for which you can already buy a good budget device. It will not please with the amount of memory, processor power, or an excellent screen. Still, budget employees in 2020 work quite smartly, often have a large battery, and outwardly do not differ much from twice more expensive models.

What should you watch out for in the case of $ 100 smartphones? Probably, first of all, all the same to the platform and feedback regarding performance. Still, at this price, there are models in which even the interface works with friezes, which is not the best option.

Xiaomi Redmi 9A / 9C

  • Display – IPS 6.53 inches with a resolution of 1600 x 720 pixels
  • Platform – MediaTek Helio G25 / G35
  • Memory – 2/32 GB
  • Camera – 13 megapixels
  • Accum – 5000 mAh

Surely, this deuce is already very popular, but I would not consider the junior device. Judging by numerous reviews, a bundle of Helio G25 and MIUI 12 often significantly slows down even in the interface, although for some reason, not all. Considering the price difference, it is better to buy Redmi 9C. This model has NFC (be careful, not all modifications have NFC). But the old micro-USB port remained in both devices, but there is nowhere to go – so far, manufacturers are guilty of this.

Samsung Galaxy A11

  • Display – IPS at 6.4 inches with a resolution of 1560 x 720 pixels
  • Platform – Snapdragon 450
  • Memory – 2/32 GB
  • Camera – 13 megapixels
  • Battery – 4000 mAh
Which budget smartphone to choose in 2020

Yes, once the budget Samsung was a bad choice, but that has changed. Galaxy A11 offers a very nimble platform, and even Qualcomm (that is, you can roll GCam), NFC, USB-C, and even 15-watt charging. And Samsung now has a cool One UI shell and good support with software updates. When choosing between, for example, Redmi 9C and Galaxy A11, I would probably choose the latter.

Smartphones from $150 to $200

There are already quite a few smartphones in this price category without any particular drawbacks, of course, taking into account the price. Many models are already equipped with enough platforms for any common tasks, cameras that shoot what is called normal, and can also offer nice buns like fast charging. And the choice here is generally many times greater.

Xiaomi Redmi 9

  • Display – IPS 6.53 inches with a resolution of 2340 x 1080 pixels
  • Platform – MediaTek Helio G80
  • Memory – 3/32 GB or 4/64 GB
  • Camera – 13 megapixels
  • Accum – 5020 mAh

This particular model is probably the most optimal Xiaomi among state employees. There is already a compelling platform, fast charging, NFC, USB-C, Wi-Fi 5, a Full HD screen, and a slightly more original design. But the 3/32 GB model looks much more interesting than its younger counterparts on all fronts. Also, compared to the Redmi 8, there is a very significant jump in performance.

Nokia 3.4

  • Display – IPS at 6.39 inches with a resolution of 1560 x 720 pixels
  • Platform – Snapdragon 460
  • Memory – 3/64 GB
  • Camera – 13 megapixels
  • Battery – 4000 mAh

Not the most obvious option, but with several advantages. First, there is a very fresh and high-speed Qualcomm platform. This is almost the same Snapdragon 662/665. Secondly, you can roll GCam here. Thirdly, there is bare Android and excellent support from the manufacturer for software updates. Finally, an inquisitive design, plus NFC and USB-C. Of course, Nokia smartphones are not very popular now, but this model is worth its money.

Motorola G9 Play

  • Display – IPS 6.5 inches with a resolution of 1600 x 720 pixels
  • Platform – Snapdragon 662
  • Memory – 4/64 GB
  • Camera – 48 megapixels
  • Accum – 5000 mAh

Another not the most obvious choice, but the smartphone costs the same as the Redmi 9 in a similar configuration. Simultaneously, there is already quite a good modern camera, a 20-watt charger, and a Qualcomm platform. NFC and USB-C are present and Wi-Fi 5, while the Moto G8 lineup had only a Wi-Fi 4 module. Add a smart shell with original buns here, and you get a very decent option for your money.

Xiaomi Redmi Note 9

  • Display – IPS 6.53 inches with a resolution of 2340 x 1080 pixels
  • Platform – MediaTek Helio G85
  • Memory – 3/64 GB
  • Camera – 48 MP
  • Accum – 5020 mA • h

The bestseller of the company, which at the same time has controversial points. For example, the platform here is almost the same as in the cheaper Redmi 9, only 3 GB of RAM in the basic version, but a good camera, original design, and 18-watt charging. There are NFC and USB-C, of course. Many will clearly choose this particular smartphone and are unlikely to be disappointed in general.

Samsung Galaxy M21

  • Display – Super AMOLED 6.4 inches with a resolution of 2340 x 1080 pixels
  • Platform – Exynos 9611
  • Memory – 4/64 GB
  • Camera – 48 MP
  • Accum – 6000 mAh

A smartphone offering an awe-inspiring battery life. This is his main trump card, but it cannot be said that the only one. This is not the fastest and most modern platform, but it has a decent 48-megapixel camera, a normal set of interfaces (NFC, USB-C, Wi-Fi 5), and an excellent Super AMOLED screen. The Galaxy M21 may not be the best smartphone for its money, but it is indeed the best in several dimensions.

Realme 6

  • Display – IPS at 6.5 inches with a resolution of 2400 x 1080 pixels and with 90 Hz
  • Platform – MediaTek Helio G90T
  • Memory – 4/64 GB
  • Camera – 64 megapixels
  • Accum – 4300 mAh

A unique smartphone at the time of release, which still stands out in its price. It goes without saying, first of all, with a 90 Hz screen, and this 90 Hz is really felt, although not by everyone. If we abstract from this feature, there is still something to choose this device for, for example, for a complete 30-watt charger. The platform here is very nimble, the camera is not bad, and you can roll GCam (yes, in the case of some MediaTek SoCs, this is already possible), and it will be better to shoot than Xiaomi Mi 9T (I checked it personally). Also, there is a very decent, despite not the largest battery, autonomy. At least from experience, I can say that a fresh device produces 8-10 hours of screen, depending on the load. Realme 7 is on its way, but, firstly, we have not sold it yet, and secondly, there is almost no difference in parameters.

Of course, you can choose many other devices. However, for example, many Oppo and Vivo smartphones, which are now actively gaining popularity, including our market, are inferior to competitors in their price category in terms of the aggregate characteristics. I deliberately did not include the Chinese of the third echelon because this is a separate topic.

Well, Honor and Huawei smartphones now stand apart, and they are still worth talking about. Of course, the main stumbling block is Google services, but this is still not a problem for everyone, so it is worth mentioning separately the new Huawei / Honor products in our market.

For example, you can consider Huawei P40 lite E, Huawei P Smart S, or Huawei P Smart 2021. The problem is that all three are based on the Kirin 710 SoC, which is already quite weak. Even without Google services, there are enough problems, and there is probably no point in buying such smartphones. Although this does not apply to all Huawei and Honor devices on the market – there are decent models. They just are not supplied to us.

I would also like to say a few words about the state employees Realme C11 and Realme C3. The first in terms of parameters almost completely copies the Redmi 9C, but it does not have NFC, so you can buy it only if it does not matter to you. But Realme C3 is interesting because, at its modest price, it offers a perfect Helio P60 platform, but the version that remained in our market also lacks NFC. However, this smartphone is leaving the market, so its purchase will soon be impossible.

So, the list turned out to be not the most extensive, but many models did not make it into it simply because they are slightly worse than competitors or do not differ from their own counterparts.
