To get the VLC version for M1, you must first install the version VLC 3.0.12, then check for updates, after which you will be prompted to download version 126.96.36.199, which is optimized for the ARM chip. You can get VLC 3.0.12 directly from App Store as well.
In addition to native support for the M1 chip, VLC 3.0.12 also includes various fixes related to audio distortion, incorrect operation of Direct3D video filters, adaptive resolution settings during streaming, security, and more. Also added support for the RIST protocol and made some visual improvements to the macOS Big Sur version.
