Qualcomm has officially announced the new Snapdragon 480 5G chipset release, which is aimed at budget smartphones. This is the first 400-series chip to support 5G mobile networks and make 5G smartphones even more affordable.
The Snapdragon 480 5G includes a Snapdragon X51 modem that supports mmWave and sub-6 GHz networks. The maximum data transfer rate is 2.5 Gbps for upload and 660 Mbps for upload. The chipset also boasts a two-fold increase in performance compared to its predecessor, the Snapdragon 460 model. This result was achieved thanks to the new GPU Adreno 619, CPU Kryo 460, and Hexagon 686 chip. The Snapdragon 480 5G is built using 8 nm process technology.
The novelty also received support for Quick Charge 4 Plus fast charging technology, Full HD + displays with refresh rates up to 120 Hz, 64 MP cameras, Wi-Fi 6, and Bluetooth 5.1 modules. The new image processor is capable of capturing images from three camera modules simultaneously.
The Snapdragon 480 5G should debut in the first quarter of 2021. Vivo, Oppo, Xiaomi, Motorola, and HMD Global will be among the first manufacturers to launch smartphones with this chipset soon.
