OnePlus CEO and co-founder Carl Pei leaves the company after 17 years

Not so long ago, an internal document appeared on the network with an updated leadership structure for OnePlus, in which the name of Karl Pei was missing – in 2013, he founded OnePlus with Pete Lau, which today is one of the most popular smartphone brands. Now, several independent media outlets have reported that Karl Pei left the company a few weeks ago.

It is reported that Carl Pei’s responsibilities have been taken over by OnePlus India’s regional CEO Emily Dai, who will report directly to Pete Lau.

Recently, Karl Pei has been focusing on the low-cost smartphones business – in July the company launched the mid-budget OnePlus Nord model for € 400. There were also rumors on the network about a more affordable $ 200 OnePlus Clover smartphone with SoC Snapdragon 460 and a 6000 mAh battery.

OnePlus has not yet made any official statements, like Carl Pei himself.

In the same time TechCrunch citing his own sources, reports that Karl Pei plans to create his own company and is currently conducting coups with investors. Alas, there are no other details – about the spheres of activity or connections with BBK Electronics, which includes OnePlus, no. It is possible that another player may appear on the smartphone market in the future.

The news of Carl Pei’s departure came a day before the presentation of the next flagship OnePlus 8T.
