January 2021 promises to be a real month of laptops – in less than a week, CES 2021 begins, at which leading manufacturers announce many new products with more advanced equipment (AMD Ryzen 5000 mobile APUs and competing Intel Tiger Lake-H35 are expected next week, and (See also NVIDIA GeForce RTX 30 series graphics cards).
Samsung announced plans to begin (from February) full-scale serial production of new OLED screens for laptops. In total, the South Korean manufacturer will offer customers ten new displays with a diagonal of 13.3 to 16.0 inches.
Samsung is reportedly expanding its offer next month with more affordable 15.6-inch FHD OLED panels for the first time, which should help drive the technology more widely. Before this, the company only produced higher resolution models. The company expects to increase its presence in the segment by significantly expanding the model range. In other words, more affordable laptops with OLED screens will soon be on sale.
Samsung did not provide specific data on the refresh rate for new screens. Simultaneously, the manufacturer has assured that these new OLED screens will be ten times faster than the most common LCD screens in the laptop segment in terms of response time. The ad also talks about 120 percent DCI-P3 color space coverage and deep black pixels at just 0.0005 nits.
