On the eBay marketplace, it was discovered that the MSI GeForce RTX 3080 video card was sold by Starlit Partner at a price of $ 1359. This is almost double the NVIDIA RRP for this model, and about $ 600 more than the retail price of this particular MSI GAMING X. Most interesting in this situation is the fact that the seller is owned by MSI USA.
The trademark information confirms that the seller on eBay Starlit Partner is owned by MSI Computer Corp. According to publicly available information from Bloomberg, the board of directors of MSI Computer Corp. includes representatives from Micro-Star International Co Ltd, i.e. from MSI headquarters in Taiwan. Thus, all these companies are connected.
MSI USA commented on the situation and confirmed that Starlit Partner is a separate sales subsidiary operated by MSI. The subsidiary sold excess inventory and refurbished devices to MSI. At the same time, the company had access to inventory items with which it was not allowed to deal, in particular, we are talking about video cards of the GeForce RTX 30 series. In the course of an internal investigation, it turned out that Starlit Partner gained access to these products as a result of an error.
Starlit Partner has received instructions and is now obliged to contact customers who have already purchased MSI GeForce RTX 3080 graphics cards at an overpriced price. It should offer such customers a choice – either a full refund for a purchase with a return of the goods, or a partial refund for the difference in cost while keeping the customer’s video card. In the future, MSI will strengthen its controls to avoid the recurrence of such situations.
