Mobile operator lifecell has closed the “Remote SIM replacement” service in order to provide its subscribers with reliable protection against fraudulent activities related to unauthorized replacement of SIM-cards.

According to lifecell representatives, now more and more subscribers’ personal data is stolen by third parties not associated with the operator. Therefore, to protect subscribers and their personal data, lifecell closes the “Remote SIM replacement” service, which allowed remote replacement of SIM-cards. This service was launched in March 2020 and became especially relevant during the strict quarantine period from March to May this year.

This decision was made by the company, including taking into account the requests of subscribers who faced attempts to steal their mobile numbers by fraudsters. Personal data of subscribers is stolen from external sources that are not related to the operator. In such cases, registered subscribers were able to recover the stolen numbers.

“We do our best to protect our subscribers as much as possible. lifecell cannot influence the theft and distribution of subscribers’ personal data by third parties, however, we can protect our users from SIM-card theft by replacing them in an offline format in our stores.

Take care of the protection of your personal data, do not disclose information about cards, accounts and passwords to anyone and register your number. The registered number is difficult to reissue to another person, because it is tied to your passport data.

In case of any suspicious actions on your number – immediately contact the operator ”- said Olga Rakhilchuk, head of lifecell quality management and customer service department.

At the moment, it is recommended to contact lifecell stores to replace the SIM-card. Replacement is possible only if there is a document proving the identity of the owner of the number: passport, driver’s license, military ID or pension certificate.

To replace the SIM card, you need to name a secret word or, if it was not installed, answer a number of additional questions. In case of successful identification, the subscriber receives a new SIM card with his own number. In this case, the tariff plan of the number, the balance of the mobile account at the time of the number restoration and the ordered services are saved.
