How to Dual-Boot Windows 11 and Windows 10 on the Same Computer

In this article, we will learn how to Dual-Boot Windows 11 and Windows 10 on the same computer. This article is for everyone who currently has Windows 10 as their default operating system.

You can run Windows 11 and Windows 10 on the same computer. This is called “dual-booting.” You can use these operating systems at the same time. It is possible to switch back and forth between them.

Dual-booting a computer lets you store important files in both operating systems for redundancy. Dual-booting also allows you to install any software not available for both versions of the OS, like an old game from your childhood or an outdated version of Adobe Flash Player.

If one operating system crashes, you can load the other one without losing data or needing to start all over again with a fresh install.

Dual-Booting Pros and Cons- If You Do It Right, You’ll Have the Best of Two Worlds

If you think about it, dual-booting is just like multi-tasking. With the help of this feature, you can have the best of both worlds.

Pros: Dual-booting is a great way to solve resource conflict. For example, if your computer runs on Windows and Mac OS, you can use both systems simultaneously.

Cons: Some software programs are compatible with both Windows and Mac OS, and not every program is dual-bootable.

How to Dual-Boot Windows 11 and Windows 10 on the Same Computer (3 Steps)

1. Create an installation USB drive for Windows 11

2. Creating a partition to dual-boot Windows 11 and 10

The next step is to create a separate partition for installing your new Windows 11.

A partition is a section of the storage space for a computer, device, or operating system that can be accessed independently from the other parts. A partition can be used to install an operating system on a hard disk without overwriting another and without disturbing its data. As per our case, we will need two partitions for Windows 10 and 11.

Computer users often rely on partitions to store their files because they create more space than just one file for all their data. It also makes it easy to delete or change data because it’s in separate pieces rather than one large piece.

The process of the creation of a new partition can be achieved by shrinking an already existing drive.

3. Complete your Windows 11 installation as dual-boot

The next step is to re-boot your system in Advanced Recovery mode. (You can also see this guide- How to Access Advanced Startup Options on Windows 11) This can be achieved in several ways-

NOTE: Insert your Windows 11 installation USB drive that you created in step-1 in your USB port.
