I don’t know about you, but my MacBook Pro gets very dirty in a few days. I type a lot on the keyboard, and it does not go unnoticed, and from time to time, I still accidentally touch the screen, from which traces remain. Not to mention, the MacBook is a real dust magnet. Therefore, it periodically has to be cleaned and wiped. Here are some personal tips on how to clean your MacBook screen, keyboard, and mouse to keep them looking good for at least a couple of days.
It’s important to use a different cleaning agent for every surface of your MacBook.
How can you clean your MacBook screen?
Apple recommends Clorox disinfectant wipes for Mac screens, but regular wipes will work as well. Wipes with 75% solution isopropyl alcohol.
Such napkins are already soaked in the solution.
The same wipes and a can of compressed air can be used to clean the keyboard- like that. The balloon will later come in handy for cleaning the camera lens, razor, and even furniture. If you don’t want to spend too much, you can take a rubber bulb that blows out the air. I usually get around just like that.
How to clean a MacBook?
Cleaning and disinfecting your electronic devices, be it a MacBook or an iPhone, is not the same thing, at least in the context of germs. With a regular napkin, you can remove dirt from the keyboard, remove fingerprints from the screen and bring the device into a marketable condition. Disinfection with alcohol wipes, on the other hand, removes invisible bacteria that can cause various diseases.
You can remove prints from the screen simply with a soft, lint-free cloth.
How to clean your MacBook keyboard?
For everyday cleaning, you can blow off the dust using a can or blower. You can read how to clean the keyboard with air properly in the instructions on the Apple website.
Air helps clear dust and dirt from under buttons.
Use disinfectant wipes for weekly cleaning. But there is a problem here: modern MacBooks constantly respond to keyboard presses, even when turned off. Just press any button, and the computer will turn on immediately. I dealt with this quite simply – I installed the KeyboardCleanTool app from the creators of BetterTouchTool, the Touch Bar customization app. All this application does is block the keyboard if you click on a button in the program window.
You can set up a keyboard lock immediately after starting the application.
After that, you can safely wipe the keyboard without fear of pressing the buttons, wipe the trackpad, and Touch Bar, if you have one. The main thing is that after wiping, do not immediately close the laptop lid. Let it dry for a few minutes.
How to clean your MacBook screen?
Before cleaning your MacBook, MacBook Pro, or MacBook Air screen, turn it off and unplug the power adapter. Dampen a soft, lint-free cloth and use it to clean the computer screen. Apple claims you can use water to humidify, but I lightly wipe the screen with disinfectant wipes and then with a soft cloth.
You can moisturize with special products, but I would not risk using them for the screen. There is a risk of damaging the oleophobic coating.
The main thing is to do it not too often. Fingerprints from the screen can be easily removed with a regular eyeglass cloth or microfiber.
Here are some additional Clean Your MacBook tips-
- Use only a soft, lint-free cloth. Do not use hard cloths, towels, paper towels, or similar materials.
- Do not rub the device too hard to avoid damaging it.
- Disconnect all external power supplies, devices, and cables.
- Do not spill liquid on the product unless otherwise specified for the specific product.
- Do not allow moisture to enter the product openings.
- Do not use spray, bleach, or abrasive materials.
- Do not spray cleaning agents directly onto the product.
In the case of the iMac, the advice is generally the same. Most importantly, first shut down your Mac and unplug the power cord and all connected devices. Use the same soft, damp, lint-free cloth to clean the computer surface. To clean the display on your iMac, dampen the supplied cleaning cloth (or another clean, soft, lint-free cloth) and wipe the screen with it.
