FF14’s Patch 6.4 is chock full of content.

On March 31, we saw a new Letter From the Producer Live Showcase from the development team behind Final Fantasy XIV. If you don’t have the time to sit through the lengthy presentation, the tldr is that Naoki Yoshida—FF14’s game director—revealed that Patch 6.4 would be titled The Dark Throne.

When the update arrives in late May 2023, players looking for more ways to farm FFXIV Gil can expect the new Aetherfront dungeon, Unreal Trial, and the Voidcast Dais Trial with normal and extreme difficulties. The Dark Throne will also add new main story quests to continue the Warrior of Light’s journey within the post-Endwalker world. Without further ado, let’s dive deep into what we can expect for Patch 6.4’s release!

Main Story Quests

As with all major patches, Final Fantasy XIV’s story will continue in Patch 6.4. This should give you enough content that leads up to the next chapter scheduled to drop in 7.0. The story consists of 9-10 FFXIV main story quests, furthering the story of Golbez and the Voidsent. Based on the screenshots shared during the Live Letter, we must take the fight to Golbez in the Thirteenth and defend the source.

The Voidcast Dais

Alongside the MSQs, you’ll receive a new trial as part of the story. The trial is called Voidcast Dais, and it’ll see players face off against Goldbez. This trial will have a normal and extreme version, so it’s only a matter of choosing how difficult you want the fight to be. The extreme version of the trial will reward you with bonus gear should you be able to complete it. We’re not sure what this bonus gear is yet, but it’s likely to be a weapon—similar to the rewards from the post-patch trials before Voidcast Dais.

Aetherfront Dungeon

It’s uncertain whether the Aetherfront dungeon will be part of the MSQs, but it’s likely, considering the trends from previous patches. Moreover, the dungeon’s location is just outside the Void near Sharlayan. Oh, and the Aetherfront will include polar bears, so that’s something to look forward to.

Pandaemonium: Anabaseios

The last raid tier we had ended with a cliffhanger. The Pandaemonium appeared in Sharlayan out of nowhere, even after you had supposedly resolved the crisis by going to Elpis. What happened? We’ll find the answer to that once Pandaemonium: Anabaseious drops.

Pandaemonium: Anabaseios is the third and final tier of the Pandaemonium raid series. Like last time, we’ll get a normal version and a Savage version a week later for raid fanatics to enjoy. Anabaseios will include four new fights and conclude the raid series of Endwalker; it’ll most likely be the last raid content for the expansion in general. That said, no new Ultimates or raids are set to come out before 7.0 after this, so be sure to enjoy this tier to the fullest.

An Update for the Blue Mage

We’re finally getting the long-awaited update for Final Fantasy 14’s quirkiest class: Blue Mage. The limited class cannot be played like most combat jobs, mainly because you have to use steal skills from enemies you slay.

Once Patch 6.4 goes live, the level cap of the Blue Mage will be increased to 80. New spells will also be added, including one you might be familiar with from the Shadowbringers level 89 trial. Moreover, Blue mage mains can expect exclusive gear to be added. We’ve been starved for content for the class since its release, so it’s nice to see Yoshi-P finally giving it the royalty treatment for once.

Island Sanctuary

If you’ve been chilling in the Island Sanctuary, you’ll be ecstatic to hear that it continues to prosper as casual content for players. The Island Sanctuary will receive significant updates in Patch 6.4 with new ranks, construction plots, visions, and even a new area to gather items. The biggest update for the island is that you can put furnishing around your hideout. You can finally make those plans of turning your humble hideout into an Island Paradise come true. Besides that, the dev team will reward players who have made an effort to glam up their island in the mid-patch.

Hatching Tide Event

While waiting for Patch 6.4, why not enjoy the Easter vibes with the Hatching Tide event? The event offers limited-time quests and rewards, including the Frighten emote, a set of Tonberry-themed gear, the Pa-Paya Demastered orchestrion roll, and the Hippity-hoppity Hatching-tide Advertisement Furnishing. Of course, you’ll also be rewarded some FFXIV Gil for your efforts. You need to be at least Level 15 in any class. Hatching Tide will only be available until April 10, so don’t miss out.
