Late last year, BMW announced plans to add Android Auto wireless connectivity to its vehicles. And now, finally, the update became available to the owners of some models of the German brand.

BMW said the update can be installed on vehicles running version 7.0 of the iDrive operating system. Most likely, you will not be able to carry out this operation on your own, so you will have to look at your nearest dealer. The list of compatible vehicles includes the following models:

  • 2019+ 3 Series with Live Cockpit Professional Option
  • 2020+ 5 Series
  • 2020+ 7 Series
  • 2019+ 8 Series
  • 2020+ X3 with Live Cockpit Professional option
  • 2020+ X4 with Live Cockpit Professional option
  • 2019+ X5
  • 2020+ X6
  • 2019+ X7
  • 2019+ Z4

Also note that the Android Auto wireless connection only works with certain smartphones – Nexus, Pixel, and some Samsung devices. Plus, Android Auto isn’t available in all countries.

Judging by BMW Z4 2020 owner review on Android PoliceWireless Android Auto is far from ideal. The smartphone turns off from time to time, there is stuttering while playing music, and switching tracks occur with a slight delay. Nevertheless, let’s hope that all these problems will be corrected over time with subsequent updates.
