A couple of weeks ago, Google announced that all Android 11 smartphones will be able to wirelessly connect to Android Auto. Definitely good news for Android smartphone owners, only in this situation it is necessary that the head unit of the car also support Android Auto wireless connection. And if more modern models already have this function or, in theory, can get it with an update, then in the case of old multimedia systems, you will have to rely on a wired connection.
However, developer Emil Borconi has started fundraising for a small USB dongle that will expand the functionality of your car’s head unit and add Android Auto wireless connectivity. Currently on Indiegogo crowdfunding platform fundraising for the AAWireless device is in progress.
The principle of operation of the device is as simple as possible: insert AAWireless into the USB port of your car, and then use the wireless Android Auto. Smartphones with Android 9 and newer are supported. As far as cars go, the dongle should be compatible with any head unit that works with Android Auto. AAWireless is estimated at $ 55, almost $ 260 thousand has already been raised for its release (out of the $ 220 thousand needed). The first deliveries are scheduled for February 2021.
By the way, in the vastness of Chinese Internet sites, you can find similar devices at a comparable price (along with wireless Apple CarPlay support). Write in the comments if you have any experience of using such a device, and in general, do you use Android Auto / Apple CarPlay in your car?
